The “Siu Lim Tao” Form.
Performed by Sifu DiGuiseppi 2012.
The naming of “Siu Lim Tao” translates to mean “The Way of Little Thoughts”. This form is considered a “Standing” form and is designed to teach the player how to correct the posture, and open the body for maximum vitality. The arm techniques are like an alphabet of shapes and positions that are desireable in later combat applications. The method of learning form is to serve as programming for the player, to build memory in the body, and to encourage high quality physical habits for strength and power development. It’s considered as a vehicle for meditation when done with a very quiet mind and a focus on breathing cycles. Like all forms, they can be played similar to the way a song is played on an instrument. Each verse can be played softly, gently, or hard and with a lot of punctuation. We encourage a practical approach to learning the set and encourage an slower speed, so that players may enjoy the flexibility and strength development that come with moving slowly.
The advanced form is done in three major ways. One, very very slow, so that it may require up to 1 hour to complete the set once. Two done very very fast and with a lot of throwing and snapping force. And Three, done with a casual speed, but performed on only one leg.
